Many cities in my country suffer from severe sulfur dioxide pollution. The coal-dominated energy consumption structure is the most significant reason for this increasingly serious problem. Thermal power plants are the main consumers of coal, and their sulfur dioxide emissions account for nearly 50% of the total emissions from the entire society. Therefore, controlling sulfur dioxide emissions from coal combustion is a key focus of my country's sulfur dioxide pollution control efforts. China primarily uses desulfurization equipment to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the investment demand for new desulfurization projects in the power industry was approximately 60 billion yuan.
Currently, there are approximately 1,000 sintering machines in China's steel industry, but only 10%-20% have installed desulfurization devices. Of these few in-service desulfurization machines, about one-third are not operating normally. Therefore, national policies related to desulfurization of steel sintering machines will stimulate the development of the steel sintering desulfurization industry, with total investment expected to reach 16-20 billion yuan.
